If you are travelling for Thanksgiving, you may notice that there will be more state troopers on patrol to make sure the roads are safe.
State Troopers will focus their increased patrols on reckless, distracted and impaired driving over the long weekend. And as the holidays go on, Troopers encourage everyone to use the SaferRide app to help call a taxi or a trusted friend if you’ve had too much to drink. The app was developed by the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration.
In 2016, state police investigated 931 crashes over the five-day Thanksgiving travel period. Of those crashes, 61 were alcohol-related, 271 people were injured, and six people were killed. Two of the six fatal crashes were alcohol-related.
