At the County Commissioners meeting Wednesday, the commissioners approved the purchase of a new radio system.
The new system will help improve communications in the field. John Pivadori, the deputy director of Indiana County’s Emergency Services said that one of the big features is the compatibility of this system with smartphones and other smart-devices to use as direct communication with the county EMA. While the general public won’t have access to the app, this will make things easier for EMA officials and those who need to have temporary contact with EMA.
The system is expected to be installed by next summer.
In other business, the board approved an agreement with Primecare to bring dental services to the County Jail. Dental service is mandated for inmates at the jail, but the county has been retaining outside dentists and bringing inmates to the dentist office, which poses several risks. By keeping everything in house now, not only will it reduce the risk of an inmate trying to escape, but it will also reduce costs as they will not need sheriffs deputies to escort the prisoners to these appointments.
Finally, the courthouse will be closed for Thanksgiving on November 23rd and 24th.
