The Blairsville-Saltsburg school board accepted the resignation of the Superintendent at Wednesday night’s meeting.
The board voted to accept the resignation and retirement of Superintendent Tammy Whitfield, effective March 31, 2018, subject to the execution of a court agreement.
The motion is part of a General Release Agreement between the District and Whitfield, who has been on leave since November 2016, most of that time unpaid. While the specifics for Whitfield’s suspension have remained vague, Whitfield herself has maintained that it is a retaliation for her suggesting the two high schools in the district be consolidated.
Gary Matta, one of the district’s solicitors, said that the federal lawsuit brought upon the district by Whitfield is in the settlement process, and that no comments can be made until appropriate documents are finalized and signed, hopefully by the end of the year.
In other news, the board added three substitutes for general education, and adopted an update to the Tobacco and Nicotine Use policy to account for vaping devices.
Lastly, Mary Whitfield was recognized for 20 years of service to the board.
