The state yesterday announced almost $75 million in funding for 227 new projects across the commonwealth, for everything from acid mine drainage cleanup to recreational facilities. Just under $1.3 million of those funds will be coming to Indiana County for fourteen projects.
The money comes from impact fees for Marcellus Shale drilling and the Multimodal Transportation Fund.
HERE IS THE COMPLETE LIST OF INDIANA COUNTY PROJECTS:
Indiana University of Pennsylvania received a $220,000 Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program (GTRP) grant to develop a master plan for the Allegheny Arboretum Confluence Park near the Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex and the Hilton Garden Inn. The concept is to convert a degraded industrial flood plain into a healthy stream system with ponds, riparian forests and natural plantings that can serve an educational purpose for IUP.
Homer-Center Recreation and Park Board received a $100,000 GTRP grant for renovations at Intown Park in Homer City and Risinger, Lucerne and Altman parks in Center Township. The work includes installation of playground equipment, resurfacing at baseball fields and basketball and tennis, and development of a walking trail. Improvements are also planned for the Homer City community pool.
Clymer Borough received an $80,025 GTRP grant to renovate Sherman Street Park. The work includes construction of a plaza with a historical cut stone stage, new parking spaces, sidewalk, lighting and landscaping.
Center Township received a $75,465 Multimodal Transportation Fund Program (MTFP) grant for the paving of Entry Road – the only road to the Village of Altman. The current road is in dilapidated condition with soft spots, sinkholes and sections that are completely gone.
Indiana County Development Corp. $1,200,000 for Windy Ridge Business Park transportation improvements including road, stormwater, ADA compliant sidewalks/crosswalks and streetlights.
