From IUP Sports Information
Redshirt junior quarterback Lenny Williams, Jr. and senior setter Katie Miller (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) have been named the IUP Athletes of the Week, which were announced by the IUP Sports Information Office on Monday morning.
The pair helped IUP to a championship-like weekend, with Williams leading the Crimson Hawks to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) title at West Chester and Miller helped women’s volleyball clinch the Southwest Division title and the top seed in the conference tournament.
Williams earned PSAC Championship Game MVP honors after finishing 15-of-20 for 212 yards and three touchdowns passing in the Crimson Hawks’ 24-7 win over West Chester on Saturday. The signal caller tossed all three of his scores in the opening half as IUP opened up a two-score lead at halftime.
Eight of his 10 completions went for at least 10 yards, with three of them going for more than 38 yards.
With his performance, Williams moved into second place in IUP history with 7,856 yards of total offense and 73 total touchdowns. He also moved into sixth place on the program’s passing chart with 5,747 career yards.
This is Williams’ third IUP weekly honor of the fall and the eighth of his career.
Miller was a standout for the Crimson Hawks on the court as IUP won its three biggest matches of the season, all over divisional opponents – 3-0 over Clarion, 3-0 over California, and 3-1 over Seton Hill. That final match came on Saturday afternoon and was a winner-take-all for the regular season division crown.
The distributor of the IUP offense, Miller finished with 113 assists during the week, averaging 11.3 assists per set. Her biggest performance came on Saturday, as she finished with 51 assists, a career-high six service aces, 10 digs and five kills. The 51 assists were her second most in a four-set match this season.
This is the second IUP weekly honor for Miller – the PSAC-leader in assists per set at 11.13 – in the last three weeks.
