The Summit Platform will be discussed tonight at the Indiana School Board Meeting.
The instruction method that has garnered a lot of criticism from parents will be brought up for general discussion tonight, but there is also a motion on the proposed agenda that would direct the district’s administration to gather costs of a third-party entity to survey parents, junior high students and teachers who are directly involved in implementing the Summit platform and curriculum in sixth grade at the Junior High. Also, the board will also look at a motion to direct the administration to prepare a comprehensive written report on the Summit system. The Summit platform has come under criticism from those attending meetings, saying that the students are spending too much time in front of a computer screen and not enough time with a teacher.
Also on the agenda will be a presentation on bond refinancing and a motion to refinance portions of the 2012 and 2013 bonds, which would save the district around $197,000. The board will also consider a motion that has been tabled twice before on paying construction bills owed to McKissick Associates for work on the aborted Ben Franklin Elementary Project.
