Indiana Borough Police have released more information on the shooting Friday night.
Police say the shooting happened at a home on North 15th near the intersection with Philadelphia Street. In that home, 19-year-old Jacob Robert Kelly of Indiana was with an 18-year-old and an unidentified third person. Around 9:25 PM, Kelly waved a handgun around and it discharged, striking the 18-year-old victim in the chest. That person was taken to IRMC by Citizens and later transferred to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh for treatment of the gunshot wound. Kelly was arrested on-scene by police, and the investigation lasted a while as they tried to find the handgun. It was recovered near the scene in what appeared to police to be an attempt to hide it.
State Police assisted Indiana Borough Police on the scene. Police have charged Kelly with aggravated and simple assault, reckless endangerment and tampering with or fabricating evidence. He is now in Indiana County Jail awaiting his arraignment before District Justice Jennifer Rega.
