The Homer City borough council approved a motion to advertise the 2018 budget, and the borough manager addressed the work on Route 119. A date was set for Light-Up Night, and the borough will begin accepting bids on a construction vehicle.
The 2018 budget of $551,405 was approved with no tax increase. Police Chief Anthony Jellison expressed concern that the amount budgeted to part-time police wages ($27,500, a $2,500 increase from 2017) would only cover five shifts per week for the year. The council remarked on the possibility of amending the budget down the road, and no further action was taken.
Borough Manager Rob Nymick remarked on the Route 119 project, saying a tentative date has been set for a power outage for a portion of Homer City, as electric lines and poles will need relocated. Weather permitting, the outage will take place on Saturday, November 18th from 6 AM to 2 PM. Any affected residents should receive prior notification of the outage from Penelec. A generator will keep the lights at the intersection of Routes 119 and 56 powered during this time.
Nymick said also that the 119 water line issues have mostly been addressed, and that Church Street should hopefully reopen within the first week of December.
In other news, Light-Up Night is slated for December 1st, with the parade beginning at 5:30.
Finally, a motion was made to advertise the sale of a 1995 F-800 dump truck and plow, with a mileage of 37,387. The borough is requesting that sealed bids marked “Dump Truck” be sent to the Homer City Borough Building, 30 East Wiley Street, Homer City, PA 15748.
