IUP junior point guard Carolyn Appleby scored 20 points, as IUP women’s basketball team upset Pitt, 73-68, on Sunday afternoon at the Petersen Events Center in an exhibition game.
Appleby shot 6-of-16 from the field and 6-of-6 from the foul line.
Redshirt junior guard Lauren Wolosik scored 17 points on 6-of-12 shooting, including 3-of-5 from long range with five rebounds, three assists and three steals in 39 minutes on the court.
Junior forward Brittany Robinson had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, going 8-of-12 from the charity stripe with four assists, three blocks and two steals. Senior forward Megan Smith was the fourth player in double-figures for the Crimson Hawks with 12 points with four rebounds, four assists and two steals.
The Crimson Hawks won the turnover battle by forcing Pitt into 20 on the afternoon, with IUP players totaling 11 steals.
With the win, IUP improved to 1-1 in exhibition games and play host West Virginia Wesleyan Saturday at the Memorial Field House at 3 p.m. to open the season. Then the women play West Virginia State, Sunday 3 p.m. at the KCAC.
