Indiana girls’ tennis players Kelsey Heckert and Lauren Bertig won both of their doubles matches on Friday and advanced to the semifinals in the PIAA Class 2A girls’ tennis tournament at the Hershey Racquet Club.
Kelsey and Lauren’s first win on Friday came in a match with Delone Catholic in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0. In the quarterfinals, they beat Elk County Catholic in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0.
In Saturday’s semifinals match, they lost to the District 10 Champions, Villa Maria Academy, 6-1, 6-2. Villa Maria went on to win the state title in its next match.
Lauren and Kelsey played in the consolation match against Notre Dame-Green Pond and won in three sets, 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 to earn third place and a bronze medal.
This was Kelsey’s second straight third-place medal at the PIAA doubles tournament.
