More than 300 runners will take part in Sunday’s 6th Annual Indiana First Bank Veterans Marathon on the Ghost Town Trail.
The race is a qualifier for the Boston Marathon and is expected to attract runners from at least six states. There is also a half-marathon.
One of the marathon organizers, Al Lockard, says the race will include at least 155 marathoners and five relay teams:
“It’s the only marathon in Indiana County right now. It’s a special event, the proceeds from this, 100% of the proceeds go to support area veterans within Indiana County. So there’s the Indiana Veterans Relief Fund, and over the last five years, this race has generated over $75,000.”
Lockard says they hope to top the $100,000 mark this year. The marathon begins and ends at Saylor Park in Black Lick, with the course turning around just beyond the Dilltown crossing.
The marathon begins at 9 AM and the half-marathon at 9:30.
