His mother says Shayne Iverson is “at peace now” after the 3-year-old passed away at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC. Shayne was only five days old when a hunter’s stray bullet struck him in the eye as his father was holding him in their Saltsburg area home in September of 2014.
In Facebook posts this week, Stefanie Iverson disclosed that her son came down with a high temperature on Saturday and was taken to Children’s, where he was diagnosed with meningitis. On Tuesday, she posted that tests showed “little to no brain activity” and, barring a miracle, the family would remove him from life support. She posted a message yesterday indicating Shayne had died. He’d suffered through surgeries and numerous complications in his life, including a bout with meningitis in August of 2016, resulting from sinus fractures from the shooting.
The Iverson family has an ongoing account at any S&T Bank branch to help with Shayne’s expenses, and a funding campaign has been set up as well. You may donate at gofundme.com/weloveshayne.
