PSAC Commission Steve Murray on Thursday announced a public reprimand of the football programs from IUP and Gannon University.
The reprimand comes after a post-game altercation among players from the two squads following the conclusion of Saturday’s game. Additionally, two players, one from each squad, have been suspended for their actions during the altercation. The names of the players will not be released by the conference.
Both programs have been placed on “probation” by the conference for the remainder of the season. Further incidents from either squad this season may result in harsher penalties than are generally prescribed under conference policy.
Both institutions cooperated fully in the conference’s investigation and were consulted regarding the
sanctions. The PSAC considers this matter concluded.
Coach Paul Tortorella made this statement following the PSAC reports: “We have high standards for our student-athletes and staff and expect everyone on our program to conduct themselves with integrity and sportsmanship at all times. The behaviors of some of our players following our win over Gannon Saturday are not consistent with our values or expectations. Our fans , our university and our community deserve better. These unacceptable behaviors were addressed immediately following the game. Our program understands and accepts the consequences of these actions , including any penalties from the PSAC.”
