UPDATE: Tonight’s meeting has been cancelled. No reason has been given.
The Blairsville-Saltsburg School Board will meet and discuss the district’s suspended superintendent.
The board will meet tonight at 6:00 PM at the Saltsburg Middle/High School Library, and on the agenda for that public meeting will be a consideration to remove Superintendent Tammy Whitfield. She has been on suspension since last year, and the school board did not officially announce why she was suspended. Whitfield has said in multiple reports that she felt the suspension was in retaliation for suggesting the board consolidate the district’s two high schools. She has also filed a lawsuit against the district and five of its board members. She is seeking damages for pain and suffering, along with reinstatement, attorney’s fees and back pay.
A hearing on Whitfield’s possible firing was held on October 19th, but that hearing was closed to the public and to the media.
