Indiana County’s unemployment rate dropped once again in September.
According to the state Department of Labor and Industry, the unemployment rate for Indiana County went down by one-tenth of a percentage point to 5.5%. That’s still above the state-wide average of 4.8%. Indiana County is tied with four other counties for the 45th lowest unemployment rate in the state.
Comparing Indiana County to our neighbors, Westmoreland County had the lowest in the region with 4.9%, followed by Jefferson County with 5.3%. Armstrong County had 5.7%, Clearfield County had 5.8% and Cambria County had 6.1%
The total number of non-farm jobs increased by 2200 to 32,600 jobs in September. The largest increases were in state and local jobs, as they saw increases when schools re-opened for the 2017-2018 school year.
