In college football yesterday, IUP clinched the PSAC West title with a 42-26 win over Gannon. IUP built a 35-0 lead midway through the third quarter before surrendering some late scores.
Pitt beat Virgina, 31-14, while Penn State lost for the first time this year, 39-38 to Ohio State.
In high school football, Ligonier Valley crushed Berlin Brothersvalley, 41-0, to win the Rams’ second straight Appalachian Bowl title.

At the District 6 cross country championships Saturday, Marion Center’s girls and boys teams both finished second to qualify for the state championships. The girls were led by Mackenzie Walker, who finished third, and the boys by Hunter Armstrong. Both were the top qualifiers from the Heritage Conference.
In the NHL, The Penguins lost to the Minnesota Wild 2-1 Saturday night. The Pens will face the Winnipeg Jets Sunday evening, beginning with the pregame show at 6 o’clock on U92.5 FM and the U92-5 Sports Channel.
The Steelers will be in Detroit Sunday to face the Lions with kickoff set for 8:30. The pregame show will begin at 6:30 on WDAD AM 1450 and FM 100.3.
