In announcing the fall enrollment figures earlier this month, IUP stressed a renewed emphasis on retaining current students. A university administrator is leading a new task force aimed at doing just that.
Patricia McCarthy, who in August was named the Vice President of the Division of Enrollment Management, has created the Taskforce on Undergraduate Retention and Persistence – known by the acronym “TOUR”.
The group developed in collaboration with Provost Tim Moerland and Vice President for Student Affairs Rhonda Luckey will work toward a goal of eighty percent retention and persistence by 2022. “Retention” refers to the number of freshmen who return for a second year at IUP. “Persistence” is the number of students who eventually graduate.
The task force will report its recommendations to IUP President Michael Driscoll’s cabinet in mid-January. McCarthy will also lead IUP’s five-year plan to improve enrollment and retention, known as the “SUCCESS Plan” (Strategic University Comprehensive Combined Enrollment and Student Success Plan.)
