The Marion Center School Board began discussing the fate of one of the school’s supplemental programs, hired new staff members, and approved a donation to a local community organization at Monday’s meeting.
The board discussed the fate of the district’s Pre-Kindergarten program in light of what President Gregg Sacco described as a “difficult budgetary year” to come. As funding for such programs continues to shift away from state and federal focus, the board is faced with the issue of how to continue to fund the Pre-K program on a local level and whether or not to include students of nonqualified income. The issue is on-going as work on the budget will continue into the new year. But, in the meantime, Superintendent Clint Weimer is open to any questions and concerns.
In other news, the board approved new paraprofessional substitutes, a substitute nurse, and a substitute custodian. A full time custodian was hired for Rayne Elementary as well.
Lastly, a donation of $2500 to the Marion Center Park Association was approved.
