After a lengthy process, Sheetz is finally selling beer at their Homer City location.
The convienence store on Route 119 South had many different beer companies dropping off their first shipments of alcoholic beverages ranging from beer to cider to malt liquor beverages. Jenna Hazelet, District manager of Sheetz, even said that one of the reasons the Homer City location was re-modeled was to facilitate beer sales, and agreed that the beer sales was a long time coming.
There were a lot of obstacles in Sheetz’ way to getting their license to sell beer. In 2016, Sheetz had acquired a liquor license in another municipality and was trying to transfer it into Center Township. That met with resistance from other beer sellers in the township, and the transfer request was initially rejected by a 2-1 vote of the Center Township Supervisors. Sheetz had claimed the meeting was not held properly. Judge Thomas Bianco ruled the vote was a proper vote, but the meeting would be held again to allow public comment to be recorded properly. That special hearing went by the wayside when Sheetz purchased a liquor license that belonged to the former Whitey’s Peetza earlier this year.
