A meeting of the Blairsville-Saltsburg School Board to discuss removing a suspended superintendent has been re-scheduled.
Official notice has been given by the Blairsville-Salstburg School District that the Board will hold a public meeting on Thursday, October 19th at 6:00 PM at the Blairsville Senior High Library. The purpose of the meeting will be to consider removing Tammy Whitfield from her position as Superintendent in accordance with the Pennsylvania School Code. This meeting was re-scheduled from last Tuesday, when it was cancelled due to scheduling conflicts.
Whitfield was placed on paid suspension last November and that was changed to an unpaid suspension in December. Since November, assistant superintendent Jeffrey Soles has served as the interim superintendent. While the board has not announced why Whitfield was placed on suspension, Whitfield said in reports that she felt the suspension was in retaliation for her suggestion the district consolidate its schools. Whitfield has filed a lawsuit against the district and five of the district’s board members for violating the state’s whistle-blower laws by suspending her. She’s seeking unspecified damages for pain and suffering, along with back wages and reinstatement.
