On Wednesday, Elderton’s Elementary School got a chance to take a look at the material that a Project Fit America grant was able to get for them.
Elderton Elementary School received $16,700 from Project Fit America for the installation of outdoor athletic equipment and the purchase of items that can be used in Indoor Physical Education classes, ranging from jump ropes and cones to hula-hoop devices. At a special program yesterday, the students and faculty got a chance to see the equipment being used. Principal Paula J. Kijowski said the outdoor and indoor equipment will be a big assistance to their physical education classes. The community is also welcome to use the outdoor equipment after school hours.
As part of the ceremonies yesterday, the school announced that they dedicated the new outdoor equipment to David Brown, who is a longtime volunteer with the district who frequently lends his gardening and landscaping talents. Brown said he felt honored with dedicating the equipment to him, but he was also happy that kids would be getting extra physical activity.
Elderton’s grant from Project Fit America came on behalf of the Indiana Healthcare Foundation, which has helped many elementary schools in the service area of the Indiana Regional Medical Center receive this equipment.
