Firefighters in Clymer have been going door-to-door to offer a helpful service, and were recognized by the borough council for their efforts at tonight’s meeting. The Halloween parade was also given a date.
If you’re a Clymer resident who hasn’t received a knock on your door, you can expect a member of the volunteer fire company to stop and offer to check your fire alarms in the coming days. This is but one example of how the Clymer VFD goes above and beyond for the community, and their efforts are not going unrecognized.
Mayor Dennis Clawson offered his gratitude, saying:
“You know, when that alarm sounds, and you wake up in the middle of the night with that smoke-filled house, you know, get out on the roof, do anything you can to survive because who’s coming to save you is a fireman. You’re on a desolate, lonely highway and you roll over, and you’re lying on your side. Hang in there – who’s coming to save you? A fireman. And whenever that siren goes off, and you’re running in there getting that bunker suit to catch the first unit out to go make somebody’s life a little bit better… you know, heroes come in all age groups, shapes, and sizes – and you guys are my heroes. And I can’t tell you enough how much I thank you for your service to this community, to the surrounding communities, and what you give of yourself.”
Additionally, the Clymer VFD is hosting a Fire Prevention Open House at the Sherman Street station Wednesday evening from 5 to 8:30 with in-gear demonstrations, truck tours, and activities for kids.
In other news, the Halloween parade was set for 1:30 PM on October 28th, with line-up beginning at 1. Trick-or-treating will be from 2 to 4.
