A Bolivar man found guilty in 2013 for the 2011 death of his infant daughter has been attempting to overturn his conviction, but 31-year-old Clayton Mibroda is trying to do it without an attorney, and has hit quite a few snags.
Mibroda has always maintained that his newborn daughter’s death was caused by her mother, Kayla Lichtenfels, while admitting that he “dropped” her, but a jury found that 20-year-old Natalee Kay Mibroda had suffered massive blunt force injuries inflicted by her father. Clayton Mibroda was found guilty of third degree murder and sentenced to fifteen-to-thirty years in prison.
Last year, Mibroda’s attorney filed a petition for post conviction collateral relief, but that attorney has since withdrawn from the case and Judge Christopher Feliciani told Mibroda he would dismiss the petition.
Mibroda early this year filed for a new court-appointed attorney but was denied because he is no longer entitled to one, so he has been proceeding on his own. He’s been compiling records from the trial and has an evidentiary hearing scheduled for this month’s Westmoreland County Criminal Motions Court session, which begins next Monday.
