At last night’s Indiana school board meeting, discussion continued concerning an education method that has not met with approval with parents in the district.
During public comment, the Summit Learning Program was brought up for discussion again, with some saying the rollout for teachers and parents was not done properly. Board member William Smith agreed with that sentiment, but said it was time to move on. There have been since the last full board meeting a few meetings for the public to discuss the program, and a few chances for the public to see the program for themselves at the Junior High School. Another opportunity for this program will be held at the school this Thursday from 6-8 PM.
In other business, the board authorized the administration to work with financial advisors and bond counselors along with their solicitor to proceed with issuing General Obligation Bonds for this year. The proceeds will be used to re-fund current portions of Series 2012 and 2013 bonds via internet auction, but there is a clause in the agreement that the net savings be at least $125,000.
The board also approved hiring Kelly Urbana as the new principal of Ben Franklin Elementary School, and Lisa Black as a new teacher at Horace Mann Elementary.
