A special meeting of the Blairsville-Saltsburg School Board has been announced and during that meeting, the board will consider removing their suspended superintendent.
The board will hold a special meeting on Tuesday, October 10th at 6:00 PM at the Blairsville St. High Library to consider removing Tammy Whitfield from her position as Superintendent of the Blairsville-Saltsburg School District. She was suspended with pay on November 1st, 2016, and was suspended without pay about a month later. While an official reason for her suspension was not stated by the District, Whitfield has stated in reports that she believes the suspension may be a retaliation to her suggesting that the district consolidate its schools.
Since she was suspended, Whitfield has filed a federal lawsuit alleging that her suspension violated the state’s whistle-blower law. The district and five board members: Beverly Carnese, Holly Hall, Linda Brown, Marlene Joyce and Michael Bartolini, were all named in the lawsuit as defendants.
