IUP’s Homecoming festivities ramped up with last night’s homecoming hip-hop concert at the KCAC. Activities will continue throughout the weekend, and local police are ready to help keep things safe.
Indiana Borough Police Chief William Sutton said that a strategy is in place for the homecoming festivities this weekend, but is not willing to make that strategy public. He did say that over the past few years, monitoring social media has become an important part in their work over Homecoming weekend and they will continue to use that tool as part of their strategy this weekend.
Chief Sutton did say that over the last two months, calls for service have decreased in Indiana Borough, and he says that may be a good sign, but they will be ready with increased patrols and increased police presence.
In advance of Homecoming, municipal police from other areas, along with the State Police and the Sheriff’s office are in town to help out, and special surveillance equipment has been set up throughout town.
Indiana Borough Police is one of the stakeholders in the I-ACT group. I-ACT will hold the first of three news conferences today at the KCAC starting at noon.
