Last night was a quiet night for police and first responders in connection with IUP Homecoming.
At a media conference, IUP Police reported a handful of arrests, ranging from underage drinking and public drunkenness to a single count of simple assault issued. Few details are available as the incident is still under investigation. Indiana Borough Police reported 36 Calls with 19 arrests, with 11 of those arrests being IUP Students. State Police helped IUP Police with crowd control at the hip hop concert at the KCAC, but report few incidents. The headliner, Lil Uzi Vert, was late in arriving, and some concert-goers left, but were not happy with the KCAC’s policy of not being able to return after you leave. But those complaints were handled without incident.
Many in Downtown Indiana on Thursday and again this morning may have noticed a security system setup in the 600 block of Philadelphia Street. Indiana Borough Police Chief William Sutton said the surveillance system has been used before. The camera system is on loan from the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency, and was used on-campus during IUPatty’s earlier this year.
Another media conference is scheduled for Saturday at Noon.
