Counselors and therapy dogs will remain at the Ligonier Valley High School for the rest of the week as the community responds to the death of a student yesterday on his 17th birthday. Nicholas Neiderhiser was killed and his brother, Tyler was flown to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center after the car Nicholas was driving hit a deer, then traveled off Route 711 and went down an embankment where it struck a tree.
The older model car was not equipped with airbags and Nicholas was not wearing his seatbelt.
The community held a candlelight vigil at the Ligonier Diamond last night.
