A Green Township man who finished second in both the Republican and Democrat primaries for a Magisterial District Judge seat in May says he will make a second run, this time as a write-in candidate.
Adam Lightcap is seeking to replace the retiring Judge George Thachik in Magisterial District Court 40-3-01, which is based in Clymer. He finished second to attorney Chris Welch in a field of seven candidates in both primaries. Welch outdistanced Lightcap by 106 votes in the Democratic Primary and by 223 votes in the Republican balloting.
Lightcap says he is running as a write-in candidate because Welch said that if elected in November, he will not leave his position with his Indiana law firm, Budash & Welch. Lightcap says it’s a full-time job with a full salary, and he also has concerns with the potential for conflicts of interest with a practicing attorney and law firm partner also serving as a judge.
Since the Primary, Lightcap has become certified to serve as a Magisterial District Judge by the Pennsylvania Minor Judiciary Board.
