Indiana Borough Council last night passed a resolution that will allow certain open alcoholic containers for festivals in the Indiana Area.
The resolution will allow waivers to the open alcoholic container prohibition for festivals provided that the alcohol sales be limited to beer, wine and cider; that the alcohol be restricted to a clearly defined area, and the area be maintained in a clean and safe manner. The resolution passed 8-2. Borough Councilman Gerald Smith said he was in favor of it as he felt it was what a lot of establishments wanted. William Budress and Richard Thorell each voted against the resolution, and Thorell said his reason for voting against the measure was that enforcement of the resolution would be problematic.
In other business, the borough approved a bid of $1,367,000 for work on the exterior of the community center. The contractor is CNC Construction out of Penn Run.
