More scams are starting to attract the attention of the State Police.
State Police in Indiana over the last 24 hours have received multiple reports of a telephone-based scam that has re-surfaced. The scammer calls the victim and claims to be with the Internal Revenue Service and trying to get immediate payment from their victim. So far, there has been no reported financial loss.
State Police remind everyone that if you get a call of this fashion, trust your instincts. If you think you’ve fallen victim of a scam, call the appropriate police department in your area to let them know. Also, talk to your family and friends, as they may offer a different perspective on the situation and may recognize things you may have missed. They also recommend that you do your research, as it may reveal whether or not the call was a legitimate one.
If you think you’ve fallen victim of the scam, you can contact the US Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration by calling 1-800-366-4484 or visiting their website, http://www.tigta.gov/
