The Summit Learning Platform was discussed at last night’s Indiana School Board Meeting.
The Summit Program is a different method of delivering education that integrates projects and technology in the classroom focusing on personalized education. But many concerns were brought up by the parents. During the public comment session, Michael Powers expressed one of the concerns that the 6th graders using the Summit Learning Platform were getting too much time in front of a computer screen, a sentiment that was echoed by several other parents. Superintendent Dale Kirsch said that screen time was and continues to be closely looked at. While he feels that 6th Graders are getting less screen time than older students, he did say that there is an anticipated increase in screen time as students get older. The Summit program will continue to be monitored.
In other business, the board failed to pass motions from the Buildings, Grounds and Transportation Committee concerning air quality testing for asbestos or mold in the district schools.
