Homer-Center welcomes a new teacher and the faculty and staff have raised money for local emergency services.
Each year, the faculty and staff at Homer Center collect money for “dress-down days.” The donations this year totaled over $1200.
Homer Center’s Cindy Scott explains the motivation to donate to local emergency services:
“We have in the past given that money to different charities and different organizations. This year we decided to give back to our community. The teachers are part of this community, we’re invested in your community, we care for you kids, we care about your kids, and therefore, we want to give back.”
With that, Scott presented $300 checks to Aultman, Coral-Graceton, and Homer City fire departments, while Homer Center’s Cindy Andrie presented a fourth check to Citizens’ Ambulance.
Additionally, the board voted to hire Courtney Henry as an elementary teacher, who’s start date is to be determined.
In other news, the Drive 4 UR School event in partnership with Luther Ford will be held from 9 AM to 1 PM on Saturday, September 23 at the high school. For each person who test drives a Ford at the event, Ford Motor Company will donate $20, which will be used to offset costs for the year’s after-prom event.
Lastly, Mikayla Dokos was recognized as the Kiwanis Senior of the Month. Fifth grader Blake Strong and senior Zachary Vought received Wildcat Recognition Awards – congratulations!
