Traffic pattern changes take effect today in two construction zones on Route 119 in Rayne Township.
On the Home railroad bridge project, drivers will begin using the new bridge and highway alignment, as that $9 million project nears completion. There is still work to be done on the alignment, the bridge approaches, drainage, guiderails, and a final layer of asphalt before the project is complete, which should be before the end of the year. The new bridge spans the Buffalo & Pittsburgh Railroad tracks and provides a gentler curve near the Route 85 intersection.
South of there, the Grove Chapel Hill Climbing Lane Project undergoes a major shift in traffic patterns starting today. Motorists will use the new Route 119 southbound lanes, shifting from the modified northbound lanes on which they’ve been driving since last fall. With traffic using the new lanes, work will shift toward reconstruction of the northbound lanes.
PennDOT says to expect congestion and delays in high-volume morning and evening commutes. The $14.6 million Grove Chapel Hill project is in the second year of a three-year construction schedule, with new climbing lanes, a center turning lane, and realignment of the S-curves at the top of the hill.
One other traffic note today…nighttime lane restrictions begin tonight in Indiana Borough for the installation of a water line on Church Street between Oakland Avenue and South 7th Street. Those restrictions will be in place between 6 PM and 6 AM, with the work scheduled to be completed by the end of the week.
