There is probably a back-story here, but it’s certainly unusual that a Westmoreland County district judge set bond at $100,000 for St. Clair Township man charged with a single felony count of receiving stolen property.
34-year-old Charles William McCurdy Jr. of New Florence was taken into custody on Wednesday. He’s accused of stealing a Suzuki four-wheeler from a Fairfield Township home, and removing its red plastic body parts and tossing them into the Conemaugh River. Acting on a tip, Greensburg-based state police tracked the stolen ATV to McCurdy’s garage.
After arraignment before District Judge Denise Thiel, McCurdy was unable to post the $100,000 bond, so he remains in custody, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for September 26th.
