The State Police is warning the public about a charity phone scam that is coming through the area.
Several phone-related scams have been reported to troopers over the last two weeks. During the call, the scammer will request a monetary donation to go to state troopers. At this point, there’s been no reported financial loss.
State Police want to make everyone aware that they do not solicit donations. They advise that if you have received one of these scam calls, do not be afraid to speak up and contact the police in your jurisdiction along with the State Police. Also, talk about the call with family and friends. They may offer a different perspective and tell you the signs that you may have missed when you were on the phone. Also, do your research. Performing a simple internet search may provide you with the information you need to determine if the call was genuine or not.
