A financial technology company has published a study of the most and least expensive counties in which to live in Pennsylvania, based on closing costs on a home, property taxes, the cost of homeowner’s insurance, annual mortgage payments, and median income.
SmartAsset’s affordability index finds the most expensive counties are mostly in eastern Pennsylvania, and the least costly are almost all in western PA, and some of them are our neighbors. But Indiana County doesn’t fare quite as well.
The most expensive of the state’s 67 counties is Bucks County, followed by Delaware County, Chester, Centre, and Montgomery counties. The least expensive county is McKean County, followed by Venango, Cameron, Elk, and Clearfield counties. Cambria and Jefferson counties rank 7th and 8th, respectively.
Indiana County ranks 26th, with average closing costs of $3,385, annual property taxes of $1,840, homeowner’s insurance costing $564, annual mortgage payments at $5,058, and median income of $45,195 per year.
