State police have released some state-wide statistics concerning DUI arrests.
According to a news release, State Troopers made 19,518 DUI arrests in 2016. That total represents the number of alcohol-related DUI’s and drug-related DUI’s. It reflects a 3.8% increase in the total number of DUI arrests in 2015.
Additionally, Troopers cerfitied as drug recognition experts conducted 1016 drug influence evaluations in 2016. Those troopers receive specialized training to identify physiological signs of impairment. As a part of their efforts to raise awareness to DUI and drug-related dangers, troopers conducted over 1600 driver education presentations in 2016.
While not broken down by county, the state police troop that serves Indiana County saw a lot of DUI arrests and crashes. Troop A of the State Police reported that in 2016, they made 1,419 arrests on DUI charges, and investigated 372 DUI-related crashes and made 16 DRE evaluations. The troop that had the most DUI-related crashes and arrests was troop H which serves the Gettysburg area, as they had 3,188 DUI arrests and investigated 656 DUI-related crashes. Troop H also made 109 DRE evaluations.
