In about 9 days, IUP will pay tribute to the 16th anniversary of the terrorist attacks in New York and Washington DC and a flight that was diverted to a field in Shanksville.
The program will be held on Monday, September 11th at 8:30 AM at the 9/11 memorial site in the Oak Grove on IUP’s campus. If ceremonies get rained out, they will move to Gorrell Recital Hall. The program will include remarks from IUP president Michael Driscoll and IUP Council of Trustees student member Caleb King. The ceremonies will also include a moment of silence at 8:46, the time when the first plane hit the World Trade Center in New York.
The event will also include a remembrance for three IUP alumni who were lost in the world trade center attacks. William Moskal of the class of ’79, Donald Jones of the class of ’80 and William Sugra of the class of ’93.
Also during the month of September, the IUP Libraries will offer a special exhibition on the attacks, and will include memorabilia from IUP alumni who assisted in the cleanup efforts.
