A man facing charges connected with the death of a Homer-Center student is expected to plead guilty today.
21-year-old Joseph Popovich is scheduled to appear for his Criminal Call session, and during his time in court, he is expected to enter a guilty plea today. Popovich faces charges of homicide by vehicle, homicide by vehicle while DUI, accidents involving death or injury and other crimes connected to the death of 16-year-old Kai Hrabovsky. Indiana County District Attorney Pat Dougherty confirmed the guilty plea this morning, but did not say what charges Popovich will plead guilty to. Police say Popovich hit Hrabovsky with his Jeep in May of last year while Hrabovsky was walking along a Pine Township road in the early morning hours. Police also say Popovich continued on to his home and was located later.
A criminal call session is also set for 20-year-old Brady Distefano, who is charged with criminal homicide and aggravated assault in the strangulation death of 20-year-old Caleb Zweig of Rockville, Maryland. The two IUP fraternity brothers were involved in a fight on the night of February 3rd in the 800 block of Wayne Avenue. A witness pulled Distefano off the unconscious Zweig, who was pronounced dead early the next morning at Indiana Regional Medical Center.
Distefano is no longer enrolled at IUP. No trial date has been set for him yet.
