The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in Indiana Couty saw a decrease in the month of July.
The unemployment rate dipped three-tenths of a percentage point to 5.5% in the month of July, while the statewide unemployment rate remained steady at 5.0%. Comparing Indiana to the neighboring counties, Indiana tied with Jefferson at 5.5%. Westmoreland was the lowest in the region with 5.0%, Clearfield had 5.8%, Armstrong county had a 5.9% unemployment rate, and Cambria had a 6.1% unemployment rate.
Indiana and Jefferson are tied for the 42nd lowest unemployment rate in the state. The lowest county-wide unemployment rate reported was Chester County at 3.4%.
Total non-farm jobs went down by 600 jobs in July. Local government saw the largest decline due to summer break at public schools. Over the year, jobs are up 200 in Indiana County.
