The Pittsburgh Pirates outlasted both a rain storm and the St. Louis Cardinals to win 6-4 Saturday afternoon at PNC Park.
The Cards started the scoring with one run in the top half of the second inning, but the Pirates bats came alive in the bottom half as Adam Frazier hit a two-run home run, followed by Elias Diaz getting an RBI on a double-play scoring Sean Rodriguez. Starling Marte would add a two-run homer of his own in the 2nd to round out the scoring in the 2nd. The Pirates notched an insurance run in the 6th as Jose Osuna hit a solo home run to left. St. Louis would score two in the 8th on a two-run shot to center field, and a solo homer in the 9th by Jose Martinez.
The Pirates and Cardinals are now on their way to the home of the Little League World Series, Williamsport for “The Little League World Series Classic”. The game will be played at the newly renovated BB&T Ballpark at Bowman Field, home of the Single-A Williamsport CrossCutters of the New York-Penn League. Because of the special nature of the game, tickets are not for sale for the game. They are being distributed to little leaguers and their families. You’ll be able to hear the game on WCCS AM 1160 and FM 101.1 starting at 6:40 with the pre-game show.
