Students and Teachers in the Indiana School District are getting ready for an early start to the school year.
Teachers in the Indiana Area School District are starting in-service activities today, with more in-service days on Thursday and Friday. Students will start the school year next Tuesday. This is following a calendar that was originally put in place in reference to the Ben Franklin Elementary School Project, where construction would have started in the summer of 2018, giving crews a longer time to work without interfering with the students at school.
When the project was officially shelved, there was a motion to change the calendar back to the original calendar, which would have started at least a week later than planned for this year. That motion ultimately failed as many school board members felt it was too close to the start of school to change the calendar, and that it would be more of an inconvenience to district parents who made plans around the originally planned calendar with the early start.
The last scheduled day for students will be May 25th of 2018.
