The Pirates took three out of four from the Tigers in their home-and-away series, and pulled a little closer to the top spot in the National League Central with their win yesterday in Detroit. First-place Chicago was idle, so the Pirates are now 3 games back.
Josh Bell belted a two-run homer, Sean Rodriguez added a solo shot, and Adam Frazier had a single, double, and triple in the 7-5 win. Gerrit Cole tossed eight innings of three-run ball to up his mark to 10-and-8.
The Pirates open up a three-game interleague series with the Blue Jays tonight in Toronto. Jameson Taillon will take the mound for the Bucs. He is 6-and-5 with a 4.60 ERA. The Jays will pitch Marcus Stroman, who is 10-and-5 with a 3.17 ERA.
