Penelec has announced the cause of Monday’s power outage that affected the Downtown Indiana Area.
Scott Surgeoner of Penelec confirmed yesterday that over 1500 Penelec customers went without power for about three hours on Monday. The outage started around 9:15 and affected everything from stores and businesses to traffic lights from 5th to 9th Streets and from Water Street to the edge of the IUP campus. Surgeoner initially stated that the two outages reported, one on Seventh Street and one on Twolick Drive, were related.
Surgeoner stated the cause of the outage was a broken or damaged wire along the line. Many Penelec customers had their power restored within an hour, as power was transferred from another substation to get power to the Indiana Borough area. Power was completely restored by 11:30.
