Indiana County has seen its fair share of drug abuse tragedies over the last few years as a drug and opioid epidemic continues to go through the area. Now, one state agency is asking those who are undergoing treatment and are living clean lives to share their stories for National Drug Recovery month in September.
The state Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs wants to celebrate long-term recovery efforts and encourage those who are considering treatment to seek it out and live a substance-free life. The story can include information about treatment and recovery and advice that would be passed on to others. Photos can also be submitted with these stories. If a story is selected for posting, no identifying information will be posted, so people can remain anonymous. And in some cases, some people may be asked to share their stories personally.
The theme for National Drug Recovery Month is “Join the Voices for Recovery: Strengthen Families and Communities”. Pennsylvania’s kickoff will be September 6th at 10 AM at the Capital Rotunda in Harrisburg, and that’s where some of the stories will be shared.
