It was a rocking night for the Pirates on two fronts. One: The post-game concert featured Chicago. Two: The Pirates beat the Padres in come from behind fashion by a score of 10-6.
It was a pitchers’ duel until the 5th inning, when Travis Wood reached base on a throwing error by David Freese. Austin Hedges scored on the error. Later in the inning, Carlos Asuaje hit a ball that was originally called in the park, but was overturned on review and ruled a homer to center field that scored Travis Wood to make it 3-0. The Pirates tried to keep pace with Ivan Nova getting a sac-bunt RBI to score Fransisco Cervelli. Josh Harrison hit a single that scored Jordy Mercer later on in the inning to make it 3-2. In the top of the 6th, another umpire review went the way of the Padres, as Yangevis Solarte’s home run was upheld to make it 4-2. In the bottom of the sixth, David Freese hit a solo homer and Adam Frazier had a RBI Single on a line-drive to left field to score Jose Osuna.
The seventh was also very eventful for both sides. The Padres’ Manuel Margot hit a homer and Cory Spangenberg was walked with the bases loaded. But in the bottom half of the inning, the Pirates’ Gregory Polanco hit a no-doubter that went out of PNC Park and into the river that scored Andrew McCutchen and David Freese. Adam Frazier got in on the scoring with a sac-fly to score Josh Bell, and Josh Harrison had a line-drive that scored Fransisco Cervelli.
The Pirates and Padres play again tonight starting at 6:40 on WCCS
