With no additional comment, the online docket sheet in the Ray Shetler Jr. murder case indicates that his trial has been delayed for two more months. It is the fifth time the trial has been rescheduled after originally being slated for November of last year.
The 32-year-old Shetler was to stand trial starting next Monday for criminal homicide, first degree murder, and third degree murder in the shooting death of Saint Clair Township police officer Lloyd Reed Jr. in November of 2015. The new trial date is October 2nd.
Officer Reed had responded to a reported domestic dispute at the New Florence home of Shetler’s girlfriend and exchanged gunfire with Shetler when he emerged from the home with a rifle in hand.
Westmoreland County District Attorney John Peck will seek the death penalty. The case will be tried before Judge Megan Bilik-DeFazio.
