The Indiana Regional Medical Center today officially announced the appointment of Dr. Brian Hawthorne as its new Chief Medical Officer, simultaneously announcing the retirement of Senior Vice President of Medical Affairs and current CMO Dr. Bruce Bush.
Hawthorne comes to IRMC from Monongalia General Hospital in Morgantown, West Virginia, where he served as Vice President/Medical Director. He is a family medicine physician with sixteen years of experience in executive management and leadership.
Dr. Bush is a true hometown boy, having been born at IRMC and graduated from IUP with a bachelor’s in chemistry. His medical degree was at attained at Hahnemann Medical College & Hospital in Philadelphia. Bush served as chief of Internal Medicine and director of Respiratory Therapy Services at the Uniformed Services Military Medical Complex during Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm in 1991. He’s been a member of the IRMC medical staff for 29 years, serving in his current position since 2001. He’s overseen the formation of the Institute for Healthy Living, enhancements in the oncology program, the establishment of the vascular program and the implementation of the hospitalist program. He’s most proud of the new cardiac intervention program at IRMC.
Dr. Hawthorne has already begun working at IRMC. Dr. Bush’s retirement is effective this Friday.
