There are no reported injuries but there is some substantial damage to the inside of a student housing unit near IUP.
The off-campus apartment where the fire happened belonged to HR Rentals and is located behind the Pizza Hut/KFC on Oakland Avenue. Indiana, Homer City and Clymer Fire Departments were called to the scene around 10:13 this morning, along with the RIG team and Citizens Ambulance. Indiana Assistant Fire Chief Ron Moreau said the cause was electrical in nature due to a box fan catching fire. Contractors had been on scene doing some cleaning, and by the time firefighters got there, most of the fire had been knocked down with water from a garden hose.
No injuries were reported, but there’s no estimate as of right now as to how much property was damaged. Moreau did report a lot of heat and smoke damage in the building.
